Every year we like to get away to a European Christmas Market. This year we decided to visit the Austrian capital, Vienna.
We have visited Vienna before, but not specifically for the Christmas Markets. So we were very much looking forward to our trip.
Getting to the airport and the flight to Vienna
Lord of the Road ‘Big Phill’ picked us up from Swansea to ferry us to the airport.
After arriving at Bristol Airport and eventually clearing security, we made our way to the Aspire Lounge.
We thought that the Aspire Lounge was good value for money as we had a few coffees and a hearty breakfast. Oh, and the obligatory Tiger beer!
The flight was uneventful apart from enjoying a Brewdog beer.
Once we dropped our bags off at our hotel, we made our way into Vienna for the evening.
Karlsplatz Christmas Market
It was only a short trip on the U-Bahn to Karlsplatz for our first Christmas Market of the trip.
It didn’t take us long to decide to consume some Glühwein. Except we opted for what seemed a posher version called Bio-Uhudler Glühwein. It really warmed us up on a cold night.
We were incredibly impressed with this Christmas Market. It was full of tasty looking food and drinks as well as handicrafts, decorations and other curiosities.
All this combined with the backdrop of Karlskirche and the tastefully decorated stalls, meant that we thought it was an amazing Christmas market.
Bangkok Vienna Restaurant
For our evening meal we made our way to Naschmarkt to Bangkok Vienna. This was one of our favourite restaurants in Vienna on our previous visit.
Once again the food was delicious, especially my main course of Crispy Duck red curry. The wife was crying as she thought her mild dish was hot! Only joking.
With tiredness setting in after a long day of travelling we made our way back to the hotel.
Our first few hours back in Vienna were very enjoyable. We are looking forward to our first full day back in the city tomorrow.
